progress city test drive #1

| Here You Leave Today And Enter The World Of Yesterday, Tomorrow And Fantasy. Welcome to Progress City's first official test drive meme! This game is a panfandom jamjar set in a flux dimension inspired by Disney Theme Parks (particularly Walt Disney World in Florida) and the original concept for EPCOT (a city that would connect to the theme parks). Whether you're looking to join us or are just here to play around for a little bit, we have a few prompts below for you - but you're also free to come up with your own! | |||
| Prompt A Whatever you're doing, wherever you are, you find a vintage-looking ticket. The next time you blink or close your eyes for any reason, you open them and find yourself somewhere else - Progress City's Ticket and Transportation Center. You have no idea how you got here, and definitely don't know how you got this weird thing on your wrist... You'll learn, eventually, that Progress City and it's world-class themeparks are a popular tourist dimension across this universe. People can get in here very easily, but for some reason, that unremovable band on your wrist isn't allowing you to use their transporters to get home. To compensate, you'll be offered a job in the parks and free housing for the duration of your stay. Is that something you're willing to take? | |||
| Prompt B While you're here, you might as well spend some time around the theme parks in your downtime. It's easy enough to get to them - the city offers free 24/7 monorail and peoplemover transportation to each park, and you also get a free annual pass for yourself with your stay (lucky you)! If you're at all familiar with Walt Disney World, these four parks will seem...remarkably familiar to you. But there's little subtle differences here and there that that make this seem different - and the ones in charge will seem confused by the concept of a "Walt Disney World". Must be a thing about different dimensions. Nevertheless, you're still going to have the occasional bit of free time here, so there's plenty to see and do here across all four areas. Go ride some rides and eat some Dole Whip, you crazy kids. | |||
| Prompt C With the housing, you also get offered a job by Progress City's mayor. Maybe you decide to take it, maybe you don't, he's not gonna kick you out of your apartment unless you deserve it. But this poses a good way to get some actual money. You'll be matched to a job around the resort - hopefully one you enjoy. You could end up working in the parks as a ride operator, serving food, managing a shop, working security, or ending up as a pool lifeguard. There are a number of possibilities here, and you can always change your job later on if you find one that may suit you more. | |||
| Prompt D Over time, the thing on your wrist changes. Namely, it'll start taking on new colors, designs and occasionally icons that reflect your character's personality and appearance. You'll find that by concentrating you'll be able to utilize your band to... cast magic spells, of all things. These also seem tailored to your character - summoning weapons, creating projectiles, putting foes to sleep? It seems that no two bands are alike when it comes to this. ...Occasionally, you'll spot one or two small ink blot-like creatures scurrying about the city or the parks, creating an inky mess and leaving a small amount of chaos in it's wake. Those don't seem advertised. Perhaps they'd be good to try out your new abilities on, or maybe you'd prefer to practice a little bit first. | |||
| Wildcard As always, feel free to come up with your own scenario if none of these inspire you! | |||

Yui Nanase | Go! Princess Precure
[When she comes to, Yui is extremely confused - this isn't her school, to be certain, and her Princesses, her best friends, are all missing. The wristband escapes her notice for a while, as she spins and tries to take in this place she's in. She's visibly trying very hard not to panic, and while she's holding it together admirably, that may not last.
Once some time passes, and she's gotten her bearings about her, she's a bit more subdued - she's in what is nominally a vacation spot? And she lives and works here now?? It's a lot to take in, and she seems to just wander aimlessly for a little bit. She'll be okay, but it'll take her a bit.]
[B | I'm going to- wait...]
[The girl that finally ends up in Epcot is sharply less stressed than she was before; a combination of explanations, some soul-searching, and a few deep breaths. The sunlight glints off her glasses as she cheerfully roams the World Showcase, a sketchbook slung under her arm as she moves from place to place. There's nothing quite like this place anywhere she's ever been, and she wants to get a feel for it if she's going to be here for a while... not to mention that it's a theme park and she wants to explore. Dressed casually with a light top, a conservative skirt, and her usual cold-weather beret atop her head, she blends in surprisingly well.
While she's content to draw for a bit during her nominal time off, eventually she has to rest, and she finds herself sitting on a bench in Japan with a cup of Dole Whip acquired from... somewhere? The sketchbook is against her side, and despite herself, she looks content. Like she isn't miles (light-years?) from home and without any idea of what to do from here.]
[C-1 | a different sort of art]
Okay, now smile!
[Somehow, Yui's artistic talent has translated into being tasked to take pictures of the guests. Once she takes a bit to understand the somewhat foreign camera that's pushed into her hands - a notable but not too challenging task, given she's used to pencils - and practiced for a bit before her shift begins proper, she's actually not too bad. Her shot composition is good, and her cheery disposition makes it easy enough to get everyone to settle down enough to take them. It's giving her more of a chance to experience the parks again, too, which she's not going to complain about.
Honestly, this is a pretty good gig? She's doing something at least related to her usual hobby, and she gets to see entertaining sights and lots of people. Things could be a lot worse! When she's idle, she snaps pictures anyway, just to practice - but that means anyone could be in the shot. Even you!]
[C-2 | a princess of a different sort]
[Yui is a bit more harried as she walks through Epcot, a young girl clutching her left hand and bravely trying not to cry. The expression in her eyes is serious, though, bordering on unusually determined. If she can find someone she can identify as a co-worker, she'll call out to them.]
Excuse me! This little girl's gotten separated from her parents. I'm staying with her until we can track them down, but can you give me a hand? I can't really search like this, and I'm not really tall enough to see over the crowds.
[Even at that much, the girl starts to shake a little bit, worried; Yui notices via the hand she's still holding, and turns back to her, crouching down. She speaks to the girl in a gentle voice, smiling softly.]
It'll be okay, for sure. I know it's scary, but someone is definitely looking out for you, now and always.
[wildcard]
[I'm up for anything! Yui is coming from after her canon, which doesn't mean much for her specifically but means she's not the wallflower she looks like. She's not much of a fighter - okay, not at all a fighter - but she'll work around it if she has to.
sorry this is long, I've been away from RP for a while so I had a lot to get out]c-2
Especially after the assurance Yui gives the kid, which is way too sappy for her taste. For a second Naoka pretends like she has to puke, compete with an exaggerated sound effect.]
Ugh, please. If you have to spout hokey crap like that, at least do it where I don't have to listen.
no subject
[She grips the girl's hand tight, smiling down at her, before idly returning her face to Naoka. She didn't say anything else for the moment, but she keeps looking for the girl's parents.]
no subject
[She takes a long swig of her juice then wipes her mouth with a rough gesture.]
I bet there's some kind of lost and found for kids. Looking around by yourself isn't practical at all. You probably think you're going to get lucky just because you're playing the good samaritan.
no subject
[At the mention of a lost child booth, her eyes light up.]
Oh! I knew I forgot something! And that's... actually kind of far from here. It's not too long a walk, though. Um, thank you for reminding me - I was so caught up in things, I completely forgot.
[She pointedly doesn't comment on hoping she'd get lucky and spot someone. Mostly because she knows it kind of goes without saying, she's just that type.]
no subject
I'm coming with.
[She straightens up and windmills her arms a few times.]
Might as well remind myself where it is. I was practically falling asleep by the end of the training.
no subject
I think we all were. Thanks, by the way. I probably would have wandered around back here forever until I remembered or someone noticed I was gone.
no subject
How old are you, anyway? Do you really want to waste your youth slaving away at some stupid job?
["Waste your youth" like Naoka isn't still in high school herself.]
no subject
Fourteen, but I'm not sure this is wasting my youth. Things like this help you grow as a person, right? And this is a breathtaking place to spend some time, if I have to spend it anyway. I... admit I'll miss my friends at home, but I think they would understand. After everything we did in the last year, it'll be a nice change of pace not to be left behind.
[She sounds oddly zen about that comment.]
no subject
[Naoka switches her gaze over to their surroundings.]
… I think "breathtaking" is pushing it. If I were to guess, I'd say it's going to get old fast. Soon enough you might really start missing your friends, and your old life.
[A second passes and she sighs, recognizing in short order that she's basically projecting her own misgivings. There's also not much point in being so negative.]

no subject
[Naoka shrugs innocently, like she isn't thinking the opposite.]
Personally, I don't know how many friends I'll be able to make here if they're all optimistic overachievers.
no subject
[She's trying not to rub it in too much, but... they're probably not compatible in this aspect, huh. Mentally, she does her best to dial her optimism back just a touch.]
It takes all kinds. And when I overachieve myself sick, you're allowed to laugh at me. It'll happen, give it time.
no subject
[Rubbing it in is a better strategy with Naoka than not, to be honest, literally despite what she just said. It's something she understands and enjoys playing off of.]
See, I know what I'm good at. Like I already have a ton of ideas about how to change these tacky uniforms. [She tugs a bit on her top.] They're completely awful.
no subject
[At the other comment, Yui looks down, surprised a bit, though she's careful not to tug her young charge as she does. She's not Kirara, but she had enough fashion sense to know what she's wearing isn't flattering, though it's at least easy to move in?]
That might be nice? We don't really stand out like this. I don't know what would suit us better, though.
