( for amaya jiwe, time traveler and bearer of the anansi totem, little surprises her anymore, despite coming from a life in 1942. the legends have found themselves in strange situations before, and this is no different. the expanse of this theme park she's found herself in far surpasses those at coney island, the attractions so highly advanced that she feels as though she's truly living the experiences they portray.

it's no surprise that amaya chooses to take the so-called peoplemover to animal kingdom, immediately enthralled by a living, breathing plant who winds herself around a lightpost, smiles fondly at passersby — she's simply divine. ) Isn't she marvelous? ( she asks a fellow admirer with a dreamy sigh, leaning back against a post to settle in.

later, she passes through the oasis and veers to the left of the magnificent tree of life, crossing a bridge into pandora, brow furrowed as she immediately encounters a strange, slightly — phallic plant that spews visitors with mist if they draw too close, unlike any she's ever seen. the sounds of creatures beckon her further into the land, though even as she touches the totem around her neck which should enable her to understand their words, she finds herself unable. it's curious, and slightly worrisome. further ahead, though, she encounters a pool of water full of some strange-looking creatures, and her face lights up immediately, racing towards them — only to find herself sprayed with water by all three, causing her to emit a gasp and stumbling backwards. if only she'd read the sign. )

I thought there were animals in this kingdom, ( she complains loudly enough for someone to hear.

luckily for amaya, she eventually finds the discovery island trails around the base of the tree of life, relieved to find an enclosure of perhaps the most beautiful porcupines she's ever seen. again, she tries in vain to touch the totem around her neck so she can speak to them to no avail; perhaps this place is more sinister than she thinks, counteracting the effects of her totem's abilities. even as she attempts to summon the ashe of the porcupines, nothing happens; the anansi totem's only purpose seems to be as a fashion accessory as the moment. if only she could get this strange band around her wrist to do something ...

regardless, she speaks aloud to the porcupines in plain english, hopes desperately that they'll understand her. ) I wish you weren't contained here, friends. Are you alright? Are you being fed well? ( because nothing about a girl talking to a bunch of porcupines is weird or anything. )
